Oxley Home Care was featured in the Canterbury Bankstown Express on Tuesday April 25, 2017 highlighting the recent changes to Home Care Packages made by the Federal Government’s Department of Health, with a case study on Fran Jobberns, a 78-year-old client of Oxley Home Care.
Fran Jobberns believes that the changes to the Australian aged care sector mean “peace of mind” for herself and other Home Care Package recipients.
Fran has been using the services of Oxley Home Care since May 2015 and is happy with the services Oxley Home Care has been providing, but had been through a number of home care providers in the past.
“For me, the changes have been largely non-existent, but I think they (the changes to the aged care sector) will help others who need to move or change providers for whatever reason,” Fran Jobberns said to the ‘Canterbury Bankstown Express’.
The recent changes to the Australian aged care sector will mean that elderly Australians, like Fran Jobberns, will benefit from being able to compare and choose their in-home care provider and change their provider at any time. Their Home Care Package funding will be allocated directly to them and their chosen aged care provider. Consumers can relocate and have their Home Care Package move with them, a big improvement from the previous situation.
The Australian Government Productivity Commission’s ‘Caring for Older Australians’ Inquiry Report (released in 2011) revealed that over 3.5 million Australians are expected to use aged care services each year by 2050. And, these older Australians do not want to be passive recipients of aged care.
“Older Australians want to be independent and be able to choose: where they live, which aged care provider they use and the way in which services are delivered,” reported the Australian Government Productivity Commission’s ‘Caring for Older Australians’ Inquiry Report.
